IIT Madras alumnus and co-founder of Zetwerk.

The story
Indian manufacturing is made up of thousands of capable small and mid-sized factories, but large buyers struggle to find, vet and manage them. Zetwerk was founded in 2018 to sit in the middle.
It started with fabricated parts for infrastructure and industrial projects, using technology to match orders to suitable factories, track production and assure quality. It then expanded into many categories — from structural steel to consumer electronics and apparel — and into exports.
In August 2021, a $150 million Series E led by D1 Capital Partners valued Zetwerk at $1.33 billion, making it one of India’s most prominent manufacturing-tech unicorns.

The methods that worked
Aggregate fragmented supply
Turning thousands of small factories into one reliable capacity network for big buyers.
Own the quality promise
Buyers deal with Zetwerk, not with each factory — so quality control is the product.
Ride policy tailwinds
Make in India, PLI schemes and “China plus one” sourcing increased demand for Indian manufacturing.
Expand category by category
Each new category reused the same playbook: find factories, standardise, manage delivery.
The hard parts
- Manufacturing margins are thin and working capital needs are high.
- Quality and delivery risk sits with the platform, not just the factory.
Lessons for Indian founders
- Old industries can be transformed by organising them, not replacing them.
- B2B buyers pay for reliability — sell certainty, not just price.
- Working capital planning is as important as fundraising in manufacturing.
Conclusion
Zetwerk shows that a unicorn can be built in “unsexy” manufacturing by solving coordination problems between buyers and thousands of small factories.
The Founder Playbook includes Build Your Unicorn, a simulation of hiring, capital and fundraising.
